Students are admitted through the central admission channel for private universities and colleges on the online portal of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, under the Ministry’s regulations in force for each academic year. This page summarises the general steps; the final word rests with what the Ministry and the university announce at the time.
General requirements
- A preparatory (secondary) school certificate or its equivalent, in the stream the Ministry specifies for the chosen department.
- An average at or above the minimum the Ministry announces for the department, for morning or evening study.
- A medical examination, and any additional requirement set by the department under the regulations.
How to apply
- Complete the application form on the Ministry’s online portal within the published period, choosing the university, department and type of study.
- Check the portal for the admission results when they are announced.
- Once admitted, visit the university’s Registration and Student Affairs Department to complete your file and pay tuition through the approved payment method.
- Collect your student ID and timetable, and start classes on the announced date.
You can also register your interest through the “Apply now” form on the admissions page; the registration team will then contact you and guide you step by step.
Documents usually required
- Certified preparatory school graduation document, or its equivalent.
- Unified national ID card, or civil status ID together with the Iraqi nationality certificate.
- Residence card.
- Recent passport-size photographs.
- Medical examination result.
The list may change from year to year under the admission regulations; its final form is announced when applications open.
Other routes
- Institute graduates: may be considered for departments related to their specialism under the conditions the Ministry announces each year.
- Transfer from another university: under the transfer regulations in force, provided the receiving department’s requirements are met.
- Non-Iraqi students: through the Study in Iraq platform — see the “International students” page.
