Sustainability & SDGs

The university takes the seventeen United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as a framework for its teaching, research and campus management. The Quality Assurance and University Performance Division follows and documents this work.

From our disciplines to the Goals

  • SDG 3 — Good health and well-being: the Pathological Analyses and Medical Physics departments prepare professionals for medical laboratories, imaging and radiotherapy.
  • SDG 4 — Quality education: the College of Education prepares teachers and school counsellors, and the whole university works to quality standards.
  • SDG 5 — Gender equality: the Women’s Affairs Division promotes equal opportunity in study and work.
  • SDG 7 — Affordable and clean energy: the Power Mechanics Techniques Engineering department studies energy systems, efficiency and renewables.
  • SDG 9 — Industry, innovation and infrastructure: served by the Building and Construction Techniques Engineering and the Laser and Optoelectronics Engineering departments.
  • SDG 16 — Peace, justice and strong institutions: the Forensic Evidence department serves justice through scientific evidence.

Towards a sustainable campus

  • Saving electricity, water and paper, and moving transactions online.
  • Waste sorting and safe disposal of laboratory waste.
  • Tree planting and care of green spaces.
  • Environmental awareness campaigns with students.

Reporting

The Quality Assurance and University Performance Division records activities linked to the Goals, and its reports are published in the Downloads centre when issued.
