Overview
The Department of History studies the human story in Iraq and the world: the civilisations of Mesopotamia and the ancient Near East, Arab and Islamic history, European and modern world history, and the modern history of Iraq.
Students learn historical method and the critical reading of sources and documents, alongside historical geography, education and psychology courses and history teaching methods, graduating as teachers equipped with a researcher’s tools.
They complete teaching practice in schools in history and social studies, and a graduation research project working with primary sources.
